Egg Toy-introductory image

One of the best things about being a parent is that you get to play with your children. There are many toys available for kids, but sometimes it’s just as fun to make them yourself! This article will show you how to create your own surprise egg toy for babies.

You can use any type of plastic eggs or small containers and googly eyes – the possibilities are endless!

Let’s begin!

Making a Surprise Egg Toy for Your Baby- 2 Ways

Utilizing Large Plastic Eggs

What You Need:

  • Large Plastic Eggs – Small ones will break.
  • Googly eyes (or other decorations)
  • Scissors X-Acto knife or sharp object to poke holes in the eggs
  • Permanent Marker Pencil and Ruler Tools for cutting small objects like a pair of tweezers, needle nose pliers etc.
  • Optional Materials: Paint/Paintbrush (for decorating the eggs) Super Glue or hot glue gun. You may also want to know how to make edible paint for babies in this regard!

Procedure:

Start by Poking Holes

Use an X-acto knife, a sharp object like a nail file to poke holes in one end of the egg. Try to create different sized and shaped holes so that you can add different decorations on some eggs! Put the googly eyes on the end of a pencil and push them into one egg.

Add Multiple Eggs

Add two more eggs so that they are all touching. These will be your baby’s hands! Add another few small plastic eggs to make it look like she is wearing an outfit/dress or pajamas. If you want, paint them any color you’d like.

Otherwise, leave them white and add some other decorations like a bow on the back of her neck or even flowers in her hair! It will look just as cute either way!

Glue Some Small Objects

You can also glue small objects to make it look more realistic – for example, glittery hearts around the baby’s wrist could be bracelets; you could add a small toy car or truck to the scene as if it’s parked next to her, or maybe you want to add a rattle to represent that she is holding one in her hand.

Get creative and have fun with it!

When you’re finished, seal up the hole at the top of the egg with some hot glue (or use a superglue). Let the glue dry and you’re done!

Your surprise egg toy is now ready to play with!

Tips:

  • If your eggs are too small, try using a hot glue gun to attach them together. It will be more durable that way.
  • You can also add other decorations to the baby doll like a hat, shoes or other accessories. Use your imagination!
  • You can also glue the eggs to sticks and make it look more realistic- just add some hot glue to the ends of them before you stick them into the egg.

Next, let’s talk about another idea.

Creating a DIY Paper Mache Egg!

What you need:

A balloon – any size will do, but the bigger the balloon, the larger the eggshell you’ll end up with. Newspaper White glue (or cornstarch and water) Paint (optional)

Procedure:

Start by Inflating Your Balloon

Inflate your balloon to about 80% of its full size and tie it off. Cut strips of newspaper about an inch wide and long enough to go around the balloon at least twice (or more, depending on how thick you want your eggshell to be).

Soak the strips in white glue or a mixture of cornstarch and water until they are completely saturated.

Smoothing

Cover the entire balloon with one layer of glued newspaper strips, making sure to smooth them out as you go. Go ahead and add a second layer, or even a third, for a really thick eggshell. Let the glued newspaper dry completely (this could take several hours). Pop the balloon inside the dried shell and remove it.

If your eggshell isn’t completely smooth, you can use a bit of sandpaper to smooth it out. Also, if you’d like your eggshell to be colored, now is the time to paint it!

Add Surprises

Once your eggshell is finished, it’s time to add the surprise! – You can use any small object you want: a toy, a trinket, some candy…anything that will fit inside the egg. Just make sure that it is securely glued to the inside of the eggshell so that it won’t fall out.

The Drying Process

Once you’ve added the surprise, let the egg dry completely. It might take a day or two for the glue to set properly.

– Now you’re ready to give your paper mache egg to someone special! They’ll be surprised when they crack it open and find what’s inside!

TIPS:

– If you’re having a hard time getting the balloon to stay inside the eggshell, you can use some tape to help hold it in place. – You can also add extra details to your eggshells like polka dots, stripes, or other patterns. Have fun with it!

– Be sure to let the egg dry completely before giving it to someone; otherwise they might get a nasty surprise!

What Other DIY Toys Might You Consider This Weekend?

Are you considering some additional do-it-yourself projects this weekend? If so, there are lots of fun and easy toy projects you can do to create your own toys.

In this section of the blog, we’ll share a few ideas for DIY toys that you might want to try. We hope you have a fun (and crafty) weekend! 🙂

-DIY Toys:

Creating toys is one of the best ways for kids to spend their time, especially when they’re allowed (and encouraged) to use creativity and imagination as much as possible. As you know, there are endless possibilities when it comes to creating DIY toys, but we wanted to give you a few ideas that might inspire you.

You can also make a toy farm if you are looking for something extensive in this regard.

– Stuffed animals:

One of the easiest (and most popular) DIY toys to make is a stuffed animal. All you need is some fabric, stuffing material, and a few basic sewing skills. You can choose to sew your toy by hand or use a sewing machine.

Sewing your own stuffed animal is a great way to create a special toy for your child. He or she will be able to cuddle and play with this soft friend every day!

– DIY dollhouse:

This is an easy project that you can make together as a family, especially if children are old enough to use small tools like scissors.

– Cardboard toys:

Another option is to create a simple toy out of cardboard. For example, you could make a playhouse or a car out of cardboard and decorate it with paint, glitter, tissue paper flowers…the possibilities are endless!

A simple piece of cardboard can be turned into a car, a house, or almost any other toy that your child can imagine. Let their creativity run wild!

– Modelling clay creations:

Did you know that many types of modelling clay react with water? If you work the clay with water, it will become soft and pliable. You can use this technique to create some really fun toys!

– Recycled toys:

Yet another option is to repurpose an old toy. For example, you could take the insides out of a stuffed animal to make your own version. Or if you have craft supplies sitting around that you’ve never used, try turning them into a new toy.

If you have some old toys lying around, why not turn them into something new and exciting? With a little bit of imagination (and some glue), anything is possible.

– Toys from nature:

This is a great project for kids who like to spend time outdoors. You could make toys out of sticks, rocks, pinecones, or other natural objects that can be found in your area.
